Adoption Fees
Dogs   $ 165.00
Cats   $ 125.00
Kittens   $ 175.00

Any dog over the age of 6 months must receive a rabies vaccine & obtain a dog license. Please arrive at the shelter early enough to spend some time with the animal and complete the adoption process. Westfield Animal Control and Shelter reserves the right to deny adoption to anyone at any time for any reason. In order to do what is best for each animal, animals are adopted to qualified recipients only. A drivers license or state ID must be shown at the shelter.

You must have an approved adoption application to visit with animal shelter guests. If you know there is an animal at the shelter you are interested in, knock and ask for an adoption application. You may fill out the application in your car or at home. Completed applications can be returned to the shelter or emailed to: terri.kutayli@cityofwestfield.org

Reclaim Fees
Impound Fee   $ 50.00
Boarding Fee   $ 15.00 / day
Other fees may apply

If you believe your pet has been picked up by animal control, please call the shelter immediately. Stray dogs and cats will be held for 10 days. Owners will be responsible for paying a boarding fee of $15.00 per day and a $60.00 administration fee. Other fees may apply. Per MGL Chapter 140 and the City of Westfield’s ordinances, you must show proof of a current rabies vaccine for dogs and cats, and a current city license for dogs, in order to reclaim your pet. If your pet is not up to date on the required items listed above, animal control will get the animal up to date, and the fees will be added to the total reclaim cost.

Dog licenses
- Dog Licenses can be purchased at the Licensing Division of the City Clerk's Office, 59 Court Street, Room 217, Westfield, MA 01085 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) or by using the printable mail-in registration form. Massachusetts General Law (MGL) requires that all dogs 6 months of age and older be licensed each year. If you have licensed your dog before, the license is due one year from when it was purchased last. Dog licenses are also a great means of identification and can be traced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by either Animal Control or the Police Department. License costs are $15.00 for dog that has been spayed or neutered, or $30.00 if they are not. Please bring proof of current rabies vaccine and proof of neutering or spaying with you when licensing your dog. Dog licenses can be paid for with exact change or a check made out to the ‘City of Westfield’. Click here for a Mail-in Dog Registration.
