Westfield Animal Control and Shelter reserves the right to deny adoption to anyone at any time for any reason. In order to do what is best for each animal, animals are adopted to qualified recipients only. A drivers license or state ID must be shown at the shelter.
Reclaim Fees
Impound Fee   $ 60.00
Boarding Fee   $ 15.00 / day
Other fees may apply

If you believe your dog has been picked up by animal control, please call the shelter immediately. Stray dogs will be held for 7 days. Owners will be responsible for paying a boarding fee of $15.00 per day, $60.00 administration fee and other fees may apply. Per MGL Chapter 140 and the City of Westfield’s ordinances, you must show proof of a current rabies vaccine and also a current city dog license to claim your dog.

Dog licenses can be purchased at the Westfield Animal Shelter located at 178 Apremont Way (during shelter hours) or at the License Division of the City Clerk's Office, 59 Court Street, Room 217, Westfield, MA 01085 (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm). Massachusetts General Law (MGL) requires that all dogs 6 months of age and older be licensed each year. If you have licensed your dog before, the license is due a year from when it was purchased last. Dog licenses are also a great means of identification and can be traced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by either Animal Control or the Police Department. License costs are $15.00 for dog that has been spayed or neutered, or $30.00 if they are not. Please bring proof of current rabies vaccine and proof of neutering or spaying with you when licensing your dog. Click here for a Mail-in Dog Registration.
